European Union Law is for Cyprus a new and vital area of law in
view of the island’s forthcoming accession to the European Union. The
island’s location will enable it to further develop in the services
sector and tourism. Our newly-established European Union Law Department
is prepared to meet the challenges that lie ahead, and is advising
government departments and companies about the changes they are going to
face by the adoption of the acquis communautaire. Andreas Coucounis
& Co will be actively involved in public procurement projects and
will help foreign companies to bid for them. It is also planning to take
part in government projects on harmonising Cypriot law with the EU
acquis communautaire as well as monitoring any developments in
establishing a national Competition Law authority.
The firm will be entering into association agreements
with a London and Brussels law practice in order to draw experience and
expertise in the area of competition law.
The new developments in the field of the European
Convention on Human Rights allows us to be optimistic about the use of
the appeal procedure to the European Court of Human Rights by private
individuals, a challenge that we are able to meet by offering legal
advice and court representation in Strasbourg.

Coucounis.
